How to Reset or Replace a Faulty Dimmer Switch

Dimmer switches are a popular way to control lighting intensity, but if yours isn't functioning properly, here's how to reset or replace it.

Step 1: Identify the Issue
If your dimmer switch isn’t working properly, it might be due to faulty wiring, a damaged switch, or an incompatible bulb. Check the following:

• Is the bulb compatible with dimming?
• Is the switch physically damaged?

Step 2: Reset the Switch
If your dimmer is unresponsive, try flipping the switch off and on a few times. If the issue persists, proceed to replace the switch.

Step 3: Turn Off the Power
Before beginning the replacement, always turn off the power at the circuit breaker to avoid any electrical hazards.

Step 4: Replace the Switch

1. Remove the cover plate and unscrew the switch from the electrical box.
2. Disconnect the wires from the faulty switch.
3. Install the new dimmer switch by connecting the wires (match the colors: black to black, white to white, ground wire to ground).
4. Secure the switch in place, replace the cover plate, and turn the power back on.
